Volunteers

Like communities everywhere, and particularly the smaller ones, volunteers are more valuable than any other asset we have.  Karumba has a strong volunteering history, several not for profit organisations which have achieved considerable success and positive outcomes and high level of fund raising success.  For example:-

  •  In recent years the Cuppa for Cancer has been one of the most successful in regional Queensland - 2010 saw over $22,000 raised.
  • During the Gulf floods of 2009 - 2nd highest on record - the community got together and raised $8000 for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
  • The local school fete - run in July/August each year - netts over $20,000 annually.
  • The annual Karumba Community Anglers Classic has many locals and visitors alike volunteering and all monies raised being distributed to worthy causes and activities in the community.
  • Historically the community and local businesses have contributed, worked and raised money for a number of community services - the community, over many years, has worked tirelessly and significantly contributed to the thriving and well serviced community Karumba is today.  For example the establishment of the original ambulance service, supported establishment of the medical clinic, used to operate the Karumba airport, developed and built the Karumba Recreation Club including golf course, bowling green and sports fields, built the Karumba Civic Centre and much more.....
